About Granbury Santa House

Stories and legends of Santa Claus began as early as the third century. Over the past two decades, many entities capitalized on the desire of families everywhere and started charging for visits to Santa. Some kept cost low and provide professional photos, but in many instances, these visits created an impossibility for families to create a memory. In 2015, a couple in Granbury responded to this practice. They created Granbury Santa House where families could visit and never pay anything. The founders hoped for a place where children of all ages might come annually and enjoy the tradition of a memorable time.

With help from a professional artist friend, community support, and many volunteers, Granbury Santa House opened the Friday after Thanksgiving 2016. The tradition continued in the years to come, growing not only in hours of operation but also in the number of volunteers who supported it.

Although Granbury Santa House received a 501C3 designation in 2024, the board and founders remain adamant that no one ever pay to visit Santa. Nothing connected with the house benefits anyone financially. All visitors can use any of the hand-painted or other decorations as a backdrop for photos at no charge, using their cameras or phones. Volunteers will capture a family photo if desired.

Each year, following the annual lighted parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus enter the house and see literally thousands of people before closing on December 23. With multiple pairs volunteering their time alongside dozens of adult and student elves, we offer at least seven scheduled times each week. To support local groups, Granbury Santa House may open the doors on limited occasions. During the week of Christmas, visitors line up nightly.

All funding for the operation and maintenance of Granbury Santa House comes from donations and fundraisers. No one receives a salary—not even the man in the red suit.

All funding for the operation and maintenance of Granbury Santa House comes from donations and fundraisers. No one receives a salary—not even the man in the red suit. We welcome volunteers and always have room for those who want to become an integral part of this organization. We do background checks to protect children and do our best to make all visitors enjoy their time with Santa. From standing in line to sitting on the bench, we strive to make magical memories. Because we never want a child terrified of Santa, we appreciate parents who cooperate with directions to help with this endeavor.
